In a world full of sensory stimuli, where our senses work together harmoniously to shape our experiences, the idea of limiting ourselves to just one sense may seem contradictory. However, a group of curious children from theEarly Birds Istanbul Kindergarten recently launched an exciting project. The power of sound was to serve as a medium for highlighting memories. Their efforts culminated in a remarkable audio file called "The Sound of EBI." It captured recordings of sounds from their beloved kindergarten.
The project aimed to explore the importance of all our bodily senses and show how focusing on a single sense can intensify the experience. Try it for yourself: close your eyes and listen to all the sounds you hear around you. You'll be surprised at how much is actually happening around you. And it's never really completely quiet, is it? Especially in a city like Istanbul.
How can we support sensorimotor development in children?
So our age group of 4- to 6-year-olds, theBlue Jays, decided to embark on an acoustic adventure. They wanted to capture the sounds that define our kindergarten. From the crunching sound of stepping on bark mulch to the squeaking of doors opening and closing. The familiar ringing of the tidying-up bell was also recorded with the help of the assistants, just like every other sound.
The result was a fascinating compilation of sounds that form the backdrop to the children's lives atEarly Birds. "The Sound of EBI" became more than just an auditory experience; it became an important memento. Listening to the audio file allows the children to take a trip back to their beloved moments in kindergarten.

The power of the project lies in the ability of sound to evoke vivid images and emotions, even without the aid of visual stimuli. The giggling of her friends immediately transports her back to carefree times of play. The clattering of dishes reminded her of conversations over lunch.
"The Sound of EBI" serves as a reminder of their early childhood and allows them to relive their memories. As the children grow older, they can revisit their audio file again and again. This project has fostered a deep appreciation for the power of sound and also instilled in the children a sense of gratitude for the multisensory world in which we live.
In a world often dominated by visual stimuli, these children's audio creations show how equally important sound is, not to mention our other three senses: smell, taste, and touch. It reminds us to pause and listen to enjoy the sounds of life around us. By recording their kindergarten memories as audio files, these children have created a special, lasting memory. Now enjoy the audio journey through our EBI Nest.
